Course Information

Description

Remote Online Tutor-Led Course | Approx. 4 hours | UK CAA PPL

Ideal for students preparing for exams, or existing PPL holders as a refresher.

The PPL Principles of Flight course provides pilots with the knowledge and practical understanding needed to improve confidence and accuracy in aerodynamic theory. It focuses on applying principles of flight to support safe and effective aircraft operation and decision-making.

Participants will revisit the key principles of flight, including the four forces of flight, the relationships among lift, weight, thrust, and drag, and the effects of angle of attack and stall. The course also covers airflow, pressure distribution, camber, stability and control, load factor, and basic performance considerations, with a focus on practical understanding and real-world flying application.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the four forces of flight and how they interact
  • Explain lift, weight, thrust and drag relationships
  • Describe angle of attack and the factors leading to a stall
  • Understand airflow, pressure distribution and camber effects
  • Explain aircraft stability and control principles
  • Describe load factor and manoeuvring considerations
  • Interpret basic performance concepts related to drag and power

Assessment

There are no formal assessments during this workshop. The CAA instructor will check knowledge through activities and Q&A.

Suitability

Who should do this course?

This course is suitable for PPL students preparing for theoretical knowledge exams, licence holders who want to refresh their understanding, and pilots returning to flying after a break.

It is intended for those seeking to strengthen their confidence in Principles of Flight, including aerodynamic theory, understanding how forces act on an aircraft, and applying this knowledge effectively to real-world flying.

Certificate

This course does not provide a formal qualification, but you will receive a certificate of completion that can also be placed in your logbook to demonstrate your commitment to continuous learning.
