The Aviation Assessor Certificate is designed for employees who assess the competency of staff in the aviation industry. Typically, competency assessments are carried out by an experienced colleague or a person in a supervisory or management position. Anyone who also delivers training should consider our full Aviation Train the Trainer Certificate, as this also includes the content from this course.
During the Aviation Assessor course, you will learn about the principles and practices of assessment and how to use various assessment methods to verify that employees are competent in their aviation job roles. This course is designed to meet the requirements of the aviation industry. It is suitable for a range of functions, including Ground Handling, Engineering, Cabin Crew, Cargo, Airfield Operations and more.
In addition to increased knowledge, candidates will demonstrate competency in assessing by submitting evidence of a real assessment in the workplace.
Assessors may add the Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (RQF), which is a recognised assessor qualification in the broader education and training sector.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to explain and understand:
- Identify key principles of assessment.
- Conduct an assessment against a defined operational standard.
- Complete assessment documentation accurately.
- Provide feedback to trainees on their performance.

Assessment
To complete the Aviation Assessor Certificate, candidates must:
- Pass a short online theory assessment, graded immediately.
- Provide evidence of a practical assessment completed in the workplace.

If you add the optional Level 3 qualification, candidates must:

- Plan and carry out four assessments in the workplace, with at least two different people and two different tasks or topics.
- One of the four assessments will be remotely observed by your ATC Training tutor (typically using a recording).
- Take part in a professional discussion with your tutor and reflect on own performance.
Suitability
Who should do this course?
IATA AHM1110 states that anyone who assesses colleagues should be suitably qualified. This is a new requirement in Edition 44 (2024). This course provides a solution to meet that requirement.
This may be an existing trainer looking to add a specific assessor qualification, or it may be for an experienced colleague, team leader, supervisor or manager who will occasionally assess staff competence as part of their role.
Pre-requisites
A practical assessment is included; therefore, to complete the course, the candidate must be able to assess classroom or practical training in the aviation work environment.
Certificate
The Aviation Assessor Certificate will be provided upon completion of the course, and if chosen, the Level 3 qualification certificate will also be awarded by the external awarding organisation after internal and external quality assurance.
